ANDERSON TO DISCUSS PERMANENT WATER RESTRICTIONS
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson will seek a meeting with Tamworth Regional Council Mayor Cr Col Murray to discuss permanent water restrictions in Tamworth.
Mr Anderson said that recent rainfall has boosted Chaffey Dam to 48.2 per cent which is good news however he believes that careful consideration needs to be given when it comes to easing water restrictions.
“Whilst we are experiencing good times at the moment I believe that we should plan for the future.
“We have seen the devastating effect that drought places on farmers, business and industry.
“I don’t want to see the city put at risk and I don’t want to see industry put under pressure through the lack of water.
“Tamworth Regional Council are currently reviewing their drought management plan and this is a very good time to look at the water level percentages that trigger the level of restrictions placed on consumption
“We have an opportunity to put measures in place that protect our precious water and we should make the most of that opportunity.
“Whilst the upgrade to boost the capacity of Chaffey Dam is underway, we need to continue to be watchful about our water consumption.
“I know that many in the community do not want water restrictions eased as the dam level rises and I support their concerns to ensure that we have a reliable source of water now and into the future.
“We are a growing city and region and the demand for water is increasing, we need to be able to meet that growth so we can continue to build a better region,” Mr Anderson concluded.
