Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson today welcomed 14 medical graduates who are commencing their internships at the Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital this year.

Mr Anderson said “I welcome the interns who have travelled from both near and far to undertake further medical training here at the Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital.

“It is exciting for these doctors-in-training to now have the opportunity to put into practice what they’ve learned. An internship at our hospital will provide them with great experience working alongside the many dedicated hospital staff who serve our community.

“The commitment to quality care demonstrated by those at the Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital is known throughout our community and I’m pleased to see these interns learning from some of our best.

“A number of this year’s interns spent time at the Hospital during their university study and enjoyed it so much that they have chosen to return.

“During their one-year internship, the graduates will complete compulsory terms in the specialties of medicine, surgery and emergency.

“The intern training can be professionally and personally challenging but it is critical in ensuring patients continue to be provided with quality and specialised health care for years to come.

“Tamworth is heading to become a centre of medical excellence with state of art facilities including the $220 million redevelopment of the Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital, the $42 million North West Cancer Centre and also the $19 million Tamworth Education Centre to support our medical professionals.

“I wish these interns all the best as they continue on this exciting journey. I join the community in welcoming them to our beautiful city and wish them all the best in their training,” Mr Anderson concluded.
