ANDERSON TO LODGE 125,000 SIGNATURE PETITION
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson will lodge a 125,000 signature petition on behalf of the Newsagents Association of NSW and the ACT.
Mr Anderson said the petition has been signed by customers of newsagents and lottery agents across NSW and the ACT in support of NSW Lotteries products to remain soled in the small businesses sector only.
“Newsagents across the state are facing a challenge with Tatts Group and the sale of lottery tickets in their agencies with the threat of NSW Lotteries being permitted to migrate to big businesses such as Coles and Woolworths,” Mr Anderson said.
Tamworth Newsagency owner and Newsagents Association of NSW & ACT Treasurer Sharon Maloney said the Agency protection period, from the date of the Tat’s Group leasing the NSW Lotteries for 40 years, in 2010, expired on 1 April 2015.
“Prior to that date, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the NSW Government and Tatt’s which provided a limited extension of the original five year Moratorium to 2018.
“Essentially the MOU has now permitted the introduction of NSW Lotteries product into Supermarkets and their petrol outlets,” Ms Maloney said.
Mr Anderson said “I am a strong advocate of small businesses like Newsagents and know the difference they make to our towns through employment and economic contribution.
“I am pleased to be part of a Government which has worked side-by-side with newsagencies to work through these challenges, and I look forward to presenting their petition on the floor of the Parliament.”
