ANDERSON CONFIRMS MONEY FOR GUNNEDAH HOSPITAL UPGRADE
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has today confirmed the $2 million for the Gunnedah Hospital.
Mr Anderson met with the Minister for Health Jillian Skinner to seek clarification as to why there was no line item for the upgrade of the Gunnedah Hospital in the 2015-16 NSW State Budget.
“It was an election commitment and I was disappointed that it was not a separate line item in the Budget.
“However the Minister has assured me that the Hunter New England Local Health District will fund the $2 million upgrade as part of its capital upgrade program. It will not come from Treasury and that is why it was not in the Budget.
“This is a project that I have fought hard for and I am delighted that the money has been allocated and is ready to go. I am pleased to see that commitment honoured.
“The services that will be considered include maternity and birthing facilities, improvements to wards and clinical support services along with general building upgrades.
“It is anticipated that the staged redevelopment will be implemented in the next two financial years.
“Gunnedah is a growing a community and we need to provide the facilities to match that growth.
“This upgrade is part of my health plan for a strong future as we work towards building a better region.
“This is great news for the Gunnedah community and I am pleased that I have been able to secure this funding.
“Gunnedah plays a very important role in our region and I will continue to work hard on behalf of Gunnedah to make sure we get our fair share of investment,” Mr Anderson concluded.
