ANDERSON CALLS FOR GUNNEDAH HOSPITAL REDEVELOPMENT
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has today called for the redevelopment of the Gunnedah Hospital if re-elected next March.
Mr Anderson said he has already had discussions with the New South Wales Health Minister’s office and will be requesting the NSW Government to fund the much needed redevelopment of the Gunnedah Hospital.
“The call for the upgrade has come about from my meetings with the Gunnedah Business Advisory Group who have outlined the problems with the hospital and why it needs to be upgraded.
“Gunnedah is a growing community and we need to provide the facilities to match that growth.
“Some sections of the hospital like the Kids Ward, Ambulance Bay and Emergency Department have been improved over time through the excellent work of community groups like PRAMS and others but there is a real need for major work to be done.
"There are a number of areas that are very old and are in desperate need of an upgrade including the roof, kitchen, wards, Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), operating theatres, and birthing suites, and these are the areas I will be pushing for.
"It’s basically the middle of the hospital that needs to be redone and while the exact cost of the redevelopment is not yet known, early estimates are that we will need approximately $2 million.
"Hospitals play a very important role in our communities and we need to provide the best facilities, not only to deliver quality health services but also to attract health professionals to Gunnedah and the region.
“We now need to push hard and I am proud to join with the Gunnedah community in the fight to get the funds for the redevelopment of the Hospital,” Mr Anderson concluded.
