ANDERSON WELCOMES TAMWORTH AND GUNNEDAH COUNCILS RANGARI ROAD PLAN
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has welcomed a commitment by the Gunnedah Shire Council and Tamworth Regional Council to work together on a funding submission to upgrade the Rangari Road.
Mr Anderson said he’d been working on the issue for quite some time and has received extensive reports from the community on the condition of the road.
“This seems like an ideal project for the Resources for Regions program and I applaud the two councils working together for the outcome of a major upgrade of the road.
“Rangari Road is an important link between Tamworth, Manilla and Boggabri and the increase of daily traffic with the development of mines in the Boggabri area helps the proposal fit under the Resources for Regions criteria.
“This program requires applicants to demonstrate that projects will be constructed to enhance economic growth and productivity in NSW, specifically in regional areas that are mining-related.
“I applaud Gunnedah Shire Council’s application with the ‘in principle’ support of the Tamworth Regional Council.
“I know the projected benefits include improved travel time, improved road safety, cost savings to motorists in terms of reduced travel times and less ‘wear and tear’ on vehicles, freight and access route for mining and agriculture and direct access from the east to mining operations.
“The length of Rangari Road within the Gunnedah Shire is 18.03kms and preliminary estimates have determined the cost of the total works to be $8.75 million,” Mr Anderson concluded.
Tamworth Regional Council Mayor, Cr Col Murray said his council was looking forward to preparing a combined submission with Gunnedah Shire Council.
Gunnedah Shire Council Mayor, Cr Jamie Chaffey said staff from both Councils is working cooperatively through the Namoi Unlimited Joint Organisation in the development of a Regional Road Network Strategy as well as sharing traffic data and economic data where applicable.
