ANDERSON WELCOMES NEW ORAL HEALTH CENTRE
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has toured the new $3 million Oral Health Centre on the Tamworth Hospital health campus which opened its doors to patients today.
The Centre’s completion marks another significant milestone in the Tamworth Hospital Redevelopment.
Mr Anderson said this is a much needed expansion of existing services in Tamworth that will assist Hunter New England Health to meet the demand for quality dental care in the region.
“Approximately 68% of adults and 100% of children (younger than 18 years) are eligible for public dental care in the Hunter New England region.
“The new centre will provide patients with an oral health assessment, treatment and preventive models of care in a state-of-the-art facility.
“In addition, a large special needs consultation room has a patient lifter, which will boost staff’s capacity to meet the needs of disabled patients seeking oral health treatment within the service.
“A major focus of the centre will also be improving access to oral health care for Aboriginal communities in Tamworth and surrounding areas.
“The Centre will be staffed by a Dental Officer, Oral Health Therapist, Dental Therapist, Dental Assistant and Administrative Officer. There is also capacity to accommodate visiting dental specialists.
“While treatment is important prevention plays a significant role and the Oral Health teams will provide several oral health promotion programs and education for patients and carers.
“Hunter New England Health’s Oral Health Promotion Coordinator will also be based out of the centre.
“We need to continue to work hard on building a better region and providing the very best working environment for staff along with facilities and treatment options for patients. It’s a constant challenge meeting the demand and this facility will make a big difference,” Mr Anderson concluded.
