ANDERSON UPS THE ANTE ON FIXING GOONOO GOONOO RD
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson is pushing for a section of Goonoo Goonoo road in South Tamworth to be upgraded.
Mr Anderson has met with concerned community members and today inspected the road with former Tamworth Regional Councillor Ray Tait.
Mr Anderson said its single carriage way which is a significant problem for road users in this very busy part of Tamworth.
“It causes bottlenecks when events are held at our major venues like AELEC and TRECC where thousands of people make their way home after events with the hazards and increasing once its dark.
“It’s also unsafe for cyclists and pedestrians who frequently use this section of road.
“Because Tamworth is a growing city with more and more people using this busy road and coupled with the combination of heavy vehicles it becomes a real safety problem. We need to fix that, so it makes that section of road safer for everyone to use.
Mr Tait said “he is fed up with the condition of the section of road between Calala Lane and Greg Norman drive. It’s a dangerous section of road that is an accident waiting to happen.
“It’s a disgrace that this section of road drags down the beautiful entrance to our city. It needs to be duplicated from Calala Lane through to Greg Norman Drive.” Mr Tait said
Mr Anderson said “I have had a number of discussions with Roads and Maritime Services as well as Tamworth Regional Council advocating that this section needs to be a priority.
“I will be taking the concerns of the community and raising them with the Minister to see what we can do to fix this road. I believe it needs to be duplicated and I will start the process to seek funding to make that happen.
“Roads continue to be a priority for me in the Tamworth electorate, and there are a number of road projects that I am working on for funding including Rangari Road, Port Stephens Cutting, Grain Valley Road and the duplication of Goonoo Goonoo road,” Mr Anderson concluded.
