ANDERSON LOOKS TO EXPLORE RAIL TRAILS IN OUR AREA
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has flagged the idea of developing a rail trail between Tamworth and Barraba on the old disused rail line.
Mr Anderson said there are thousands of kilometres of rail line in NSW that will never be used again and that presents tourism opportunities right across the state.
“After being contacted by members of the community, I believe there is no harm in exploring the possibility of developing a rail trail between Tamworth and Barraba. As a result I have written to the Transport Minister to see how we progress that.
“I have taken a keen interest in the proposed Rosewood to Tumbarumba Rail Trail in the southern half of the state and I spoke in Parliament on that and expressed my desire to look at opportunities in the Tamworth electorate.
“I understand that this is not an easy process and the Member for Albury said that during development of the Rosewood to Tumbarumba proposal, ‘one-on-one’ discussions with landowners who have adjoining properties revealed a range of concerns primarily related to biosecurity, fencing and privacy.
“In response, and following a comprehensive risk assessment undertaken by Murray Local Land Services, construction of the trail will incorporate a range of responsive solutions to address landholder concerns.
“We need to keep looking at opportunities to grow tourism in our region and I look forward to receiving advice from the Minister on the Tamworth to Barraba rail line,” Mr Anderson concluded.
