ANDERSON HOUNDS BUS COMPANY OVER
Member for Tamworth and Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Roads and Rail Kevin Anderson has written to Greyhound Australia bosses asking for the New England highway service between Sydney and Brisbane to be reinstated following the announcement that the company has cut the service.
Mr Anderson said that it is disappointing to learn that the coach service would no long be available for passengers in the Tamworth Electorate and along the New England Highway.
“Greyhound Australia operates the only coach service that runs daily between Sydney and Brisbane so discontinuing the run will leave a big hole in regional transport options.
“Options for regional transport are very important to our community and I don’t want to see a service discontinued and ultimately lost. We should be looking to increase services not delete them.
“Greyhound Australia wrote to me and advised that despite their best efforts they were unable to make the service viable, therefore cutting the service.
“I have requested detailed information about that effort and offered to work with them, in the hope of finding a solution and reinstating the important passenger service.
“I’m constantly working hard on maintaining and looking to see new transport options introduced into our region, whether it is road, rail or air, so to see a long standing service ripped out of our community is devastating and doesn’t reflect to growth we are seeing our region.
“I will continue to fight for services in regional NSW so that we can continue to build a better region,” Mr Anderson concluded.
