ANDERSON FIGHTS FOR TAMWORTH TRAIN STAFF
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson is calling on NSW TrainLink to allow Tamworth Railway Station to continue selling third party holiday packages following the commencement of a review of Travel Centres, regional booking offices and Regional Station operations in NSW.
Mr Anderson said he believes the Tamworth Railway Station staff are the best in the state and deserve to be recognised for their hard work in selling holiday packages to the community.
“I am advised that some regional booking offices in the state are struggling when it comes to booking holiday packages, however the Tamworth team are delivering fantastic results and are receiving high praise from the community for the service they are delivering.
“I have spoken with Minister for Transport Andrew Constance and I have told him that our dedicated staff want to continue selling the holiday packages and the community have told me they want to continue buying them.
“There are many members of our community that enjoy the face-to-face contact that they have with the staff at the Tamworth station and feel comfortable dealing with a trusted face when purchasing their holiday packages.
“I want to see rail services in the Tamworth electorate increase and I am listing it as an important priority for tourism in our region. We’ve worked hard to increase the air travel between Tamworth and capital cities and now it’s time to see the rail industry grow as well.
“I have invited NSW TrainLink CEO Rob Mason to Tamworth to meet with the local train station staff and me to outline what the review process means for our local stations and to hear the concerns of the local staff.
“This is important to our region, one size does not fit all and if we are to build a better region we need to increase services and face-to-face contact remains an important part of that,” Mr Anderson concluded.
