ANDERSON CONTINUES THE PUSH TO UPGRADE RANGARI ROAD
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has continued his push to upgrade Rangari Road between Manilla and Boggabri a 70 kilometre road that connects the two towns.
Mr Anderson said sections of this road are dirt and the community continue to tell me of the near misses as well as vehicles that crash and rollover.
“It is an increasingly important road link for workers around our region travelling from Tamworth, Manilla, and Barraba to work around Boggabri and Narrabri.
“I am so concerned about this road that I want to continue to explore every option to provide support for councils to apply for funding to have it upgraded. Rangari Road is a regional road and that means local councils are responsible for looking after it.
“The last Joint Regional Council report back in 2016 identified it as a priority but needed funding and I believe it’s time to try again.
“I will be making a request to NSW Roads and Maritime Services to provide me with information about funding sources for these types of roads, and that will include requesting crash data for the entire section of road as well as vehicle movements.
“There may be some areas of the road that councils could apply for funding, such as the sections that need to be urgently upgraded. I am keen to assist in any way.
“If we can identify specific crash locations we can use that data to start the funding to get it upgraded and ultimately improve safety.
“There are also a number of studies including the Network Connectivity Pilot that might be able to assist
“Because we have problems with this road, we need to fix it, so that we can make it safer for all road users,” Mr Anderson concluded.
