ANDERSON CALLS FOR NEW TOURISM OFFICE TO BE LOCATED IN TAMWORTH
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson is calling for the new Destination Country and Outback NSW office to be located in Tamworth following the announcement of the board of directors yesterday.
Mr Anderson said Tamworth was the obvious choice for the home base of the new destination network given the city’s long term proven track record in tourism management.
“Tamworth is well renowned as a centre of excellence for regional tourism which is why it makes sense for the Destination Country and Outback NSW office to be located here.
“Our region has the expertise, talent base and necessary professional networks to support this new organisation in its development stages so it makes sense that Destination NSW look to Tamworth to house the head office.
“I have invited Minister for Tourism Stuart Ayers to Tamworth in January to discuss a number of matters and I will be using that opportunity to put our case forward. I am confident that the Minister will understand the benefits to locating the office in Tamworth.”
Mr Anderson said the Destination Networks new Chair Steve Bartlett calls Tamworth home and access to the staff in the organisations development stage will be crucial.
“The new Destination Network will come with three new positions; a General Manager, a Development Officer and Administration Support officer and the relationship between these positions and the Chair will be paramount in the organisations success, so placing the office anywhere but Tamworth would be creating unnecessary difficulties.”
A session will be held in the New Year to induct the Boards, with our tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, before beginning the recruitment process for the operational staff, establishing the office and setting priorities for the coming year.
