ALL ABOARD – TAMWORTH COACH TRIALS HIT THE ROAD
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson this morning farewelled trials of new regional coach services, encouraging the community to get behind the new public transport options for Tamworth.
Mr Anderson said goodbye to customers catching the 8.55am coach to Port Macquarie and the 9.00am service to Dubbo. This followed the 3.50am coach that departed for Scone to connect with existing train services, as part of a trial of a ‘day return’ service to Newcastle.
“The six month trial was being launched after strong interest from the community during consultation by NSW TrainLink during December and January.
“The Tamworth community has been asking for better regional connections and we have taken the time to listen to those concerns and as a result NSW TrainLink has today introduced three new services.
“The trial services provide new direct travel options for people from the Tamworth area and towns along the coach routes.
“This is about bringing regional communities closer together by making it easier for people to visit family and friends, attend appointments, or have a break away on the coast.
“Now it’s up to the community to get on board and use the service to make sure they continue beyond the trial period.
The coach trials were designed to complement the existing NSW TrainLink XPLORER train services serving Tamworth and surrounding communities,” Mr Anderson concluded.
Tamworth to Newcastle on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with the coach service connecting to existing trains at Scone or Muswellbrook to allow customers to make a day-return trip. People travelling from Newcastle to Tamworth can also complete a day return trip on these days.
Community feedback showed an interest in two of the timetable options from Tamworth to Newcastle so NSW TrainLink will trial an earlier time on Monday and Wednesday and a later departure on Friday.
Tamworth and Port Macquarie (and return) on Monday. On Friday there will be an afternoon departure to Port Macquarie which will return on Sunday afternoon. These days have been designed to give people the opportunity to have a long weekend in Port Macquarie.
The coach services will also connect with XPT services at Wauchope to allow connections to towns on the North Coast.
Tamworth and Dubbo (and return) will operate on Mondays and Fridays.
Customers can book seats on the trial coach services online at www.transportnsw.info/regional or by phoning NSW TrainLink on 13 22 32.
