$500,000 TO BOOST CONFERENCING OPPORTUNITIES IN OUR REGION
A $500,000 Regional Business Event Development Fund has been launched to attract and create more business events in rural and regional areas, Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said today.
Mr Anderson said staging business events is a great way to showcase the region’s conferencing facilities and array of tourism offerings while encouraging overnight stays.
“The business events sector presents a significant growth opportunity for centres large and small in our area, with conferences and meetings bringing additional business to our local restaurants, cafés, venues, attractions, and accommodation providers.
“Investment in this sector is so important because we know overnight business visitors spend, on average, $237 per night in NSW – nearly double those of overnight leisure visitors. They are also more likely to return for a future holiday with family or friends.
“The additional $500,000 is available to conference planners, towns and regions that want to create their own new conferences or attract and retain existing business events.
“Tamworth, Gunnedah and the surrounding centres know the value of bringing events to our region.
“Just recently I attended the inaugural Energy, Innovation & Mining Expo in Gunnedah and this was secured with $20,000 from the NSW Government’s 2018 Incubator Event Fund.
“We can build on the reputation of our towns to bring more events to our region. I’ve always said build it and they will come.
