$30,000 COMMUNITY LANGUAGE GRANTS
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson today announced an additional round of grants to support the revitalisation of Aboriginal languages in our communities.
Mr Anderson said the NSW Government’s ‘Our Languages, Our Way’ Community Language Grants program enables community owned and led organisations to apply for funding of up to $30,000.
“Local Aboriginal organisations are invited to apply for one-off funding to deliver a language project within our local community.
“The grants will assist Aboriginal organisations to develop and implement language projects that will help keep the local Aboriginal dialect alive.
“We have a strong and proud Gamilaroi tradition in our local area and it’s important to see the traditional language of the nation’s first people carry on for future generations.”
Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Leslie Williams said sound connections to language and culture are vitally important to the broader context of healing and strengthening cultural identity for Aboriginal people state-wide.
“OCHRE, the NSW Government’s community focused Plan for Aboriginal affairs commits the NSW Government to working in genuine partnership with Aboriginal communities,”
“OCHRE supports initiatives that improve Aboriginal people’s social, economic and cultural wellbeing.”
The ‘Our Languages, Our Way’ Community Language Grants applications will close on Friday, 6 May 2016.
