$260,000 FUNDING BOOST FOR LOCAL 24/7 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SUPPORT
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson today announced $260,000 in NSW Government funding for local women and children experiencing domestic violence to have access to extra crisis accommodation and 24/7 support.
Mr Anderson said this funding will help provide better support to domestic violence victims but we continue to need a community-wide effort to say violence is unacceptable.
“It is a terrible reality that there is demand for services but we will not let women in our community who need help go unaided.
“The new services mean women escaping domestic and family violence will have more access to support, housing and financial assistance for transport and food, 24 hours a day.
“The funding boost means local service providers Tamworth Family Support Service and Gunnedah Family Support will establish new after-hours intakes and provide additional support and housing options to help women and children leaving dangerous situations in the home.
“There is never an excuse for domestic violence. As a community we need to stand up and say enough is enough.”
Women fleeing domestic violence are also eligible for a rental subsidy, Start Safely, which will help around 3,500 families this year across NSW.
