Gunnedah has secured nearly $2Million in funding from the latest round of Resources for Regions following lobbying from Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson to have the town included in the program.

Mr Anderson said competition had been strong for a share of the $32Million available through the program with 67 expressions of interest received around the state for more than $216Million worth of projects.

“The Resources for Regions program is designed to support towns affected by mining so it made sense to me to see them included in this round of funding.

“Sewerage lines around Gunnedah are ageing and require work to make them sound for the future so this funding will go a long way to achieving that.

“This project was selected because it demonstrates value for money and will make a significant contribution to economic and social growth in Gunnedah.”

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional Development John Barilaro said the Government had determined the funding following recommendations from Infrastructure NSW and an independent panel’s review of 67 initial expressions of interest.

“Resources for Regions demonstrates the NSW Government’s commitment to ensuring jobs growth and better lifestyles in regional NSW,” Mr Barilaro said.

“The Resources for Regions program provides funding to support real projects which help to relieve the pressure that some communities are under as a direct result of mining activity, and ensure long term economic viability.”

Mr Anderson said there are big things planned for Gunnedah in 2017 and this announcement is just one of many that will help to continue building Gunnedah.
