Salvo's Get The Support They Need

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson, has welcomed funding for the Salvation Army so they can continue to provide support for the community through the No Interest Loan Scheme or  NILS®.

"The Salvos have been successful in their application to receive $30 871.30 to fund costs associated with providing no interest loans," Mr Anderson said. "These loans are interest free, for essential household goods such as a washing machine or refrigerator, or domestic medical equipment.

"The loan recipient pays the loan off in twelve to eighteen months. The NILS® worker sits down with applicants and works with them to identify their needs and works a through a manageable repayment plan.

"Living out of an esky because the fridge has died or doing the family's washing by hand because you cannot afford a washing machine is something no-one should have to deal with on a daily basis. These loans assist low-income households to have the basics."

"The Salvation Army do a fantastic job, and are delivering outcomes that make a positive difference to people's lives and I am proud to be able to support them and volunteers" he said.

NILS® was founded by the Good Sheppard Youth and Family Service in Victoria in 1981 and is now the largest micro-credit network in Australia. Capital funding is provided by National Australia Bank. In NSW more than $4.3 million in NILS® loan money contributed to the state's economy in 2009 and 2010.

Anderson Welcomes New Police Recruits

Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson MP has today welcomed 10 new Probationary Constables to our community and the Oxley Local Area Command.

“It was a pleasure to meet and greet the 10 new police officers at the Tamworth Police Station today. I congratulated each and every one them for choosing what can be a very difficult but rewarding job." Mr Anderson said.

“It was very pleasing to see a number of locals in the group. They will be able to provide their peers with valuable local knowledge, as they not only know our region but also the challenges that we face. Of the 10 new police, 8 will be stationed at Tamworth and 2 will be stationed at Gunnedah.

"Another pleasing aspect was the variety of backgrounds that these new officers have come from. These range from the trades and defence force to the retail sector and tertiary education. Policing is a very difficult job, and these life skills and experiences will assist them in their role.

"Not only do our communities welcome the new recruits, but existing police also greeted their colleagues with enthusiasm.

"Our region has been facing a very difficult period with rising crime and anti social behaviour. I believe we can overcome this and our new police will play an important role. At a recent public meeting in Tamworth an increase in police numbers was a key point. I am pleased to see that we have more police arriving and will continue to work hard to ensure that we have the numbers to match our population growth into the future.

"I wish our new recruits well and congratulate and thank them for choosing a career in the NSW Police Force." Mr Anderson concluded.

2011 Christmas Food Drive – Goods Delivered

This year Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson established a tradition of using his Fitzroy Street office to facilitate a Christmas Food Drive.

This food was delivered to UnitingCare Tamworth on Friday and will be distributed to local families who are in most need.

"There are many people in our local community who struggle through the festive season. This can occur for many reasons including financial stress, mental illness, homelessness, family turmoil and an absence of loved ones."

"I was overwhelmed by the support of our local community, and the generosity shown."

Nicolette Willis from UnitingCare Tamworth welcomed the delivery. "This donated food will help to alleviate some of the pressures of the festive season by assisting local households who might otherwise struggle to get a meal on the table," Mrs Willis said.

Mr Anderson said he was overwhelmed by the support of our local community, and the generosity shown.

"I am happy to be able to make a small contribution to assist UnitingCare with the good works which they do. I look forward to continuing this tradition in the coming years," Mr Anderson said.

Local schools benefit from first round of Public School Upgrade Program

The Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson today announced the first round of local schools to receive building upgrades under the Liberal & Nationals Government’s $40 million Public School Upgrade Program.

“The Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli has advised me that Gunnedah Public School and Tintinhull Public School will receive a total of $165 000 from the program, which was an election commitment made by the Liberal & Nationals Government,” Mr Anderson said.

“I’m very pleased we have been able to start delivering on this promise in our region so quickly.

“Gunnedah Public School will be allocated $150 000 for the renovation of toilet facilities.

“Tintinhull Public School will use $15 000 for the relocation of bubblers and the associated structure from the Public School Upgrade Program and an additional $1,899 from the Minor Maintenance Budget.

“In line with the Government’s commitment to increase decision making at a local level, the principal's and their communities were able to identify facilities for upgrading, with schools also able to self-manage the projects.

“Work on some projects will start during the summer holidays, so students, teachers and parents will start benefitting from these improvements in the near future.

The work announced for our local schools is part of $10 million being spent this financial year under the four-year upgrade program.

More than 125 schools around NSW are benefitting from this round of funding, with work on all the projects due for completion by 30 June 2012.

The Liberal & Nationals Government is also spending $5 million in 2011-12 of an extra $20 million for school maintenance.

“For 16 years under Labor, our local school facilities were allowed to run down. This made it harder for students to learn and for teachers to teach,” Mr Anderson said.

“The Liberal & Nationals Government is determined to provide the best learning environments possible for schools in our local community.

10 NEW RECRUITS FOR THE OXLEY COMMAND

Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson MP has is looking forward to the arrival of 10 new recruits who will be joining our Local Area Command on Monday.

In a boost for regional and rural NSW the NSW Government today announced that 301 officers from today’s class will be joining Local Area Commands in regional and rural areas.

“This is a great day for our local community and more broadly for country and regional NSW,” Mr Anderson said.

“Our local community is proud of its Force and we are even more proud to be welcoming a further 10 recruits to our local area.

“The men and women who have embarked on a career with the Police Force can be assured of this community’s support,” Mr Anderson said.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Michael Gallacher said this Government has committed to strengthening Police numbers by aiming for an Authorised Strength of 90% and above for every Command across NSW.

“Prior to the last election, the NSW Government made the commitment to conduct an audit of police resources, to get a clear picture of where Police are and where they need to be.

“The Audit clearly told us that communities in regional areas are crying out for more Police and today the Government is able to rectify this problem,” Mr Gallacher said.

Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner said so many parts of regional and rural NSW have been in desperate need of a more localised and consistent police presence.

The previous Labor Government had simply failed to provide the necessary police resources for regional and rural NSW.

“Along with the Police Minister, I am delighted that the Government has been able to provide these desperately needed resources to parts of NSW that have been neglected,” Mr Stoner said.

Minister Gallacher said the Government is committed to delivering for NSW Police. This year we had a record Police Budget of $3 billion to ensure our officer and the community have the resources they need.

Thank you to the Tamworth Electorate
A new beginning for our region

I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone in the Tamworth electorate who took the time to vote on Saturday March 26th.

The support has been overwhelming and it showed during the pre poll and on election day with all our booths well manned and bursting with energy. My temporary office has received many letters of support and the amount of well wishers has been extraordinary.

I feel privileged and very proud to be elected as your representative and I look forward to providing a strong voice in government and making sure that we get our fair share. The Liberals and Nationals are committed to regional areas, and I believe we are in for an exciting period.

In a few weeks I will be better positioned to update you on progress, when I am set of set up in the electorate office.

Until then
Kind Regards,

Kevin Anderson
